Vortex
Tube Tool Cooling System is Quiet and Rugged!
A
vortex tube is a device normally designed to work with a standard
compressed air supply. Air enters the vortex tube and is spun
utilizing a par called a generator which creates
the internal vortex up inside the vortex tube. Then the
air spins back inside the first vortex of spinning air. This
causes an energy transfer and this literally splits the air
flow into two parts - cold air which exhausts at one end, and
hot air which is removed at the other end - all without any
moving parts. An adjustable valve at the "hot" end
controls the volume of the air flow, and the temperature exiting
at the cold end.
By adjusting the valve, you control
the "cold fraction" which is the percentage of total
input compressed air that exits the cold end of the vortex tubes.
Depending
on the size and capacity of the vortex tube as well as inlet
pressure and inlet compressed air temperature, the cold end
can produce as low as minus 40 degrees F (minus 40 C) or more.
Minus 50 F (45.5 C) is possible for some capacities and sizes
depending on design as well.
Nex FlowTM manufactures a small and medium size vortex
tube with larger sizes possible for special applications.
The small and medium sized Frigid-XTM Vortex Tubes.
The Nex FlowTM small size vortex tube is available
to operate on 2 SCFM (57 SLPM), 4 SCFM (113 SLPM) or 8 SCFM
(227 SLPM) depending on the interchangeable H Model
or C Model generator used. The larger the flow rate
the greater the cooling capacity. The H generator
isnused for optimum cooing. The 2 SCFM unit provides 145 BTU/hr
(42 watts) of cooling, the 4 SCFM unit 290 BTU/hr or 85 watts)
and the 8 SCFM unit 580 BTU/hr (170 watts).
The Nex FlowTM small size vortex tube using a C
Model generator produces very cold temperatures again
in the three different air capacities listed above.

Customer Report
Indicates More Consistency in Quality and Performance than Competitive
Models.
One of our long time Nex FlowTM OEM customer was
approached to try a competitive vortex tube. They use the 8
SCFM vortex tube with a C Model generator. Obtaining
a consistently low temperature at a particular setting was extremely
important. The stability of the Nex FlowTM vortex tube was important
as well as the actually temperature of the unit. The Nex FlowTM
vortex tube was not only stable it consistently
produced a lower temperature compared to the competitive model
indicating its superior efficiency.
Quality and Consistency
Generators are often made of
plastic that may not hold up in hot environments. Metal generators
made of brass are far preferable along with the use of viton
o-rings to seal the space between the generator and the cold
outlet end cap. Vortex tubes are used to cool and they often
encounter hot environments so all metal with higher temperature
O-rings is a far superior design. By machining our generators
they may offer greater consistency and tighter tolerance
than molded plastic generators.
Despite a similar look among various manufacturers, it is what
is inside the vortex tube that you do not see that is
important. Proprietary manufacturing techniques and aerodynamic
designs used by Nex FlowTM has produced a consistent
Frigid-XTM series Vortex Tube that is of high quality
in manufacture and performance. The better temperature drop
compared to some others, while only slight, can add up to significant
savings over the long term because of superior design, manufacturing
techniques and quality control.
